In life, you've gotta pick your poison. Any guess what mine is? Open to interpretation, fashion is. As is taste-taste being the most obvious... I was sitting on my bed pondering the subject matter and photo opp for my next blog post when I decided to use my mother's dressing area (and her new faux hardwood flooring) for the locale. I love that word "locale", LOL...anyway, I combed through my closet for a couple of bright pieces, a gold belt and borrowed my mother's Jimmy Choo bag and "N" by Nicole Miller wedges (so jealous). So far, today's been a good day.

I wore this floral peplum dress to my internship at Haute Living yesterday. The outfit was inspired by a previous "love this look" post featuring British model Alexa Chung in a floral shirt dress and patent flats. It took me about 5 minutes to realize what I had recreated, in the end, I was pleased.

After that, I had a time figuring out where to take a quick pic before heading to Midtown, Miami ( I live in the suburbs). Anyway, I finally decided on my closet. So obvious, right? Hence the name, "closet pose."

Mom and I went to Marshalls...or was it Ross?- I can't remember...anyway, we went looking for football cleats for my kid brother.
In the end, the kid got not 1 but 2 pairs of cleats; size 15, mom got a lightweight cardigan and I, these and a pair of dainty unmentionables.
This always happens, we go somewhere with specific intentions to purchase one item for him and end up "browsing" for ourselves. This time I got lucky, its not everyday I find 9 West pumps in size 11, or anything fashionable in my size for that matter. But I did. Go Me!
My mother and I share the same shoe size and we have a mantra: "If the shoe fits, buy it!"

I paid a visit to the Goodwill late this morning in search of randomness.
Well, maybe not so random, as I've been on the hunt for a leather messenger bag, camo shorts (very "in" for this coming season) and a pair of true, blue jeans. Needless to say, I found these select items and a tad more.
I found the navy blue skirt and thought it was as cute as it was versatile.

All of the earrings and the 2 brooches are vintage from various places of interest around town. The cross was a gift from my mom. My favorite pieces? What I like to call my "Cleopatra" choker from the Salvation Army and my [arrow] ring from Loop De Loop vintage boutique.

Shout outs to my big foot-ed girls! That's right, I wear a size 11 shoe, 10 1/2 depending on the cut, i.e. death to shoe shopping. Naturally, when I saw these in the window at Loop De Loop vintage boutique looking suspiciously long, I darted for them as if I weren't the only customer in the (tiny) store in Downtown Gainesville.

Just my luck, they were a 10M, courtesy of BCBG. The sales guy said they were most likely from the late 60s to early 70s. The store owner, a charming, petite woman whom no-doubt would have known better, was on vacation. After a slip in, side buckle fastening and a brief stroll across the store, I made them mine for $12.

I figure I can wear them with jeans and a tee or a sun-dress...we'll see.

I snagged this orange, striped vintage-inspired dress from a store called "Flashbacks" this past Saturday, I figured it was a good a time as any to take a few pics. Besides, my mom's been bugging me to send her recent pictures of me [and my hair]...

Speaking of hair, I've decided to go natural and I am currently in transition. Lately I've been bored with the every-5-weeks relaxer routine. I'm ready to try something new and I'm excited about it. I called my hair-dresser for suggestions since I wasnt quite ready to chop it all off. She suggested setting my already short hair with perm rods to make my hair more managable during the transition. The plan is to let my [permed] hair grow out about 2 inches before the big chop. Something new to blog about...stay tuned!

The African Student Union hosted its annual showcase featuring live poetry, dance numbers and a fashion show with me as the stylist.

The show, entitled "Bridging the Gap" was centered on merging traditional African and Western cultural markers and, of course, clothing.

All in a day's work.
